COLOR CAN BE SIMPLE

Color Doesn’t Need to Be Complicated
No one ever believes me when I say this, but color really doesn’t have to be complicated. I’ve met so many homeowners who feel like they need three or four colors in a room just to make it look “finished.” The truth? Some of the most beautiful interiors and exteriors I’ve seen rely on nothing more than a simple, well-chosen color scheme.
Two Colors Can Do Wonders
One of my favorite approaches is using just two colors: a main shade and an accent. The main color creates the foundation for your space—it might be the paint on your walls, large pieces of furniture, or even cabinetry. Then the accent steps in to add personality. That accent can be a single painted wall, bold textiles, or even a rug that carries the color from one room to the next. Think of it like finding that perfect accessory for an outfit—suddenly everything feels pulled together.
Monochromatic Can Be Just as Fun
Now, if you’re someone who thinks sticking to one color sounds boring, hear me out. A monochromatic palette (different shades of the same color) can be every bit as elegant and exciting as a three-color design. The secret is in the textures and finishes. For example, a soft green scheme might include mint curtains, olive throw pillows, and a deep forest accent wall. Layer in a chunky knit blanket, smooth ceramics, or a patterned rug, and the space instantly feels rich and inviting without being overdone.
Textiles Tie It All Together
Textiles are often overlooked, but they’re one of the easiest ways to carry a color scheme through your home. A pillow here, a throw blanket there, maybe an area rug or some curtains—it doesn’t take much to keep a look cohesive. When these pieces are chosen thoughtfully, they extend your palette naturally and add that “finished” feel people are always chasing.
Make It Yours
At the end of the day, color is personal. Some people thrive in serene neutrals, while others love the energy of bright hues. What matters most is choosing colors that feel good to you. Start simple, play with shades and textures, and trust that you don’t need a complicated palette to create a beautiful space.
So, next time you’re staring at a paint deck wondering how many colors you “should” use, remember this: two colors (or even just one, layered thoughtfully) can be more than enough. Keep it simple, and let your home reflect your unique style.
